The Shepherd's Hut is a handcrafted off-grid shepherd's hut at Bothan Jura Retreat, Knockrome, Isle of Jura, sleeping 2. Basic sleeping only — double bed, wood-burning stove, solar lights. No kitchen or bathroom. 1-2 night stays only.

Living spaces.

There is an armchair and a Hobbit wood-burning stove to keep you snug and everyone who has stayed in it seems to love it. Shaun, our Welsh joiner who helped build Bothan Jura Retreat, lived in it for months and loved it!

We leave water and wood for the stove and solar lights. Please bring your own camping equipment to cook outside or make up a brew.

The Shepards hut was a delight, especially compared to camping in a storm! Maddie and Max were so helpful and friendly and went above and beyond.

Bedrooms & bathrooms.

Cadi sleeps two and serves as basic sleeping accommodation only. The shepherd's hut does not have a bathroom or kitchen, but does have a caravan portaloo for late night emergencies. Guests are welcome to use the toilet and shower room in our main Bothan shed to freshen up.

Outdoors & garden.

Our Shepherd's Hut is affectionately called Cadi, meaning pure, or innocent in Welsh, named by her creator, Tim from Rustic Huts, who built her by hand down in Wales. She sits in a quiet part of our site looking westwards towards the Paps, enjoying our magnificent sunsets and south down towards the big sweep of Corran Sands and Small Isles Bay.

Besides the stags and the eagles we also really enjoyed our Airbnb. Waking up to the view across the sea was also a big plus. 10/10 would recommend.

The build.

Off-Grid Glamping with Wood Stove

Cadi wasn't meant to be accommodation. She was home for the people who helped us build this place. The fact that guests love her, despite no bathroom and no kitchen — says something about what people are looking for when they come to Jura. It's not facilities. It's simplicity, and a wood stove, and waking up to that view.

Good to know.

No bathroom.
portaloo only, with a shared shower in the main Bothan shed a short walk away. At 3am in horizontal rain, that walk is real.
No kitchen.
just a wood burning stove, solar lights and water. Bring camping cooking equipment or eat out. The pizza oven package (£25 for 2 pizzas) is a good backup.
1-2 night stays only.
this is not a holiday rental for a week's stay. Think of it as a bed and a stove.
Basic by any measure.
but that's the point. If you need comfort, book a hut. If you want simplicity, this is it.
